Therapeutic Services

New Leaf Therapeutic Services offers person-centered psychotherapy with individuals who struggle with daily stress, relational conflict, addictions, anxiety, and/or depression. Samantha Gibson, Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), listens, validates, and motivates people to develop a deeper understanding of their concerns in how it impacts their day-to-day functioning, and co-operatively creates personalized strategies for coping.  



New Leaf Therapeutic Services offers individual, relationship, and family counselling in-person at both the Peterborough and Oshawa locations, or virtually upon request.

Individual Psychotherapy


Individual psychotherapy sessions will  review your concerns in detail, explore the root of the cause, bring awareness to how different areas of your life are effected, and cooperatively establish strategies that will help you manage these issues for your future.

Relational Counselling


Relational counselling aims to build effective communication between you and your partner(s). Accomplishing this will begin by disclosing the issues within a safe and accepting environment. Subsequent discussions may include dissolving the relationship in a healthy way, or discovering the values, needs, and boundaries essential for you and your relationship to flourish.

Family Counselling


New Leaf Therapeutic Services recognizes that all families are different and can be complex to navigate alone.  Therefore, familial support may include adjustment to family structure changes,  navigation of developmental transitions or a new diagnosis, management of conflict among family members, and general mental health support for family members within the household.

My Approach

New Leaf Therapeutic Services offers a freshly educated experience within evidence-based therapeutic practices such as Cognitive Behavioural, Solution-Focused, Internal Family Systems, and Humanistic therapies.  New Leaf Therapeutic Services does not take a one-size-fits all approach to therapy, but aims is to help you achieve your specific goals and offer new insights within a non-judgmental space. 

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
    • Brings awareness to how thoughts, emotions, and behaviours are interconnected​

    • Uses mindfulness to balance thoughts and emotions

    • Strengthens motivation to act on chosen behaviours

  • Humanistic Approach
    • Validates you and your feelings​

    • Recognizes the need for relatedness, competence, and self-determination

    • Provides an empathetic space to act autonomously

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)
    • Affirms that you are not defined by your problem​

    • Externalizes the issue in a perspective that allows you to confront it rather than push it away

    • Focuses on acceptance of the problem and managing it

  • Psychoeducation & Skills Training
    • Gives information on what the issue is​

    • Provides specific exercises to overcome the issue

Samantha Gibson is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from McGill University and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology degree from Yorkville University.  Samantha currently provides psychotherapy with her business New Leaf Therapeutic Services in Peterborough ON, Oshawa ON, as well as online and hopes to help many more individuals.
